Big Blue Ocean Cleanup

SUSTAINABILITY MEANS THINKING ABOUT TOMORROW, TODAY.

Sustainability has many facets. Whether ecologically, economically or socially, the basic idea is the same - to live in such a way that future generations have it just as well or better than we do.

For more sustainability in the use of plastics , we cooperate with various initiatives that have declared war on plastic waste, such as  Alliance to End Plastic Waste, Big Blue Ocean Cleanup and CEFLEX.

BIG BLUE OCEAN CLEANUP

Big Blue Ocean Cleanup is one of the world's leading non-profit organizations dedicated to cleaning up the oceans.

Big Blue Ocean Cleanup's collaboration focuses on raising awareness of the state of the world's oceans, the protection of marine life and the sustainable cleaning of coasts and oceans. In addition to training partners and informing the public, this also includes actively cleaning up beaches and removing plastic and rubbish.

Storopack is the exclusive sponsor of the coastal cleaning program in Europe and supports it financially and actively with campaigns with our employees. In Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. Beach cleaning campaigns take place regularly, where Storopack teams remove microplastics and small plastic parts from beaches.

ALLIANCE TO END PLASTIC WASTE

Together with around 40 companies along the plastics value chain, we are working with the global Alliance to End Plastic Waste initiative to remove existing plastic from the environment and to prevent new plastic waste from entering the environment. The organization has set itself four priorities: the development of infrastructure for cities and/or regions that are particularly affected by plastic waste, investment in new recycling technologies and technologies for the recovery of plastic, education, information and awareness-raising about recycling processes and cleaning up and removing plastic that has already entered the environment.

For example, Storopack's collaboration with the Alliance to End Plastic Waste includes the ALL TOGETHER GLOBAL CLEANUP campaign. In order to rid the environment of waste, Storopack employees also took part and collected over 5,183 pieces of waste in autumn 2020, with further waste collection campaigns in 2021 and 2022.

OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP

With the cooperation with Operation Clean Sweep, we have committed ourselves to the goal of not letting any plastic particles from production and from the operation plants get into the environment via water. In this way, Storopack makes an important contribution to avoiding the loss of granules in the plastics value chain.

To this end, we have created the technical and organizational prerequisites to avoid granule spillage in our plants and to ensure that if granules are spilled they do not end up in the environment. This was implemented  through systems with special water filters and through training courses for our employees.

CEFLEX

CEFLEX is a European collaborative initiative of more than 130 companies that represent the entire value chain of flexible packaging. Working together, these companies are looking to overcome the complex technical and economic challenges that stand in the way of a functional circular economy. Along with other CEFLEX members we are committed to developing a sustainable collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure for flexible post-consumer packaging throughout Europe.

As a result, we have significantly expanded our range of protective packaging made from recycled raw materials in recent years. We plan to increase the percentage of these products considerably in the years to come, which will make a functional recycling loop even more important. Our membership in CEFLEX can make a valuable contribution.
